Artisan soapmaker Evelyn Wool will teach hands-on soap making focusing on the cold-process method. Learn to make soap with natural ingredients like tallow or lard, goat milk, olive oil, coconut oil, and essential oils, as well as common kitchen items like pumpkin and spices.

Rain or Shine

This event takes place rain or shine under our spacious 20′ x 40′ event tent. In the case of rain, please plan accordingly for walk around time on the farm after the workshop.

What You’ll Learn

Gain a firm understanding of the entire soap-making process, including:

• The definition of saponification, or the chemical reaction needed to create a solid bar of soap 
• Ingredients needed for soap-making 
• Safety measures, equipment, and materials required, including preparing the work area, preventing mishaps, and using the proper equipment and tools for weighing, heating, and mixing ingredients 
• The properties of goat milk, various fats and oils, colorants, and scents, as well as their impact on the resulting soap’s properties
• The benefits of using animal fats, along with information about beneficial vegetable oils
• How to incorporate fresh foods, such as pureed pumpkin in soap making
