Registered Dairy Goats

We bought our first Alpine and Nubian goats from local farmers so we could learn from and build on their experience. We got to know folks through the North Carolina Dairy Goat Breeders Association (NCDGBA), the Johnston County Goat Producers Association (JCGPA),  and the Johnston County Agricultural Extension Office (JoCo Cooperation Extension). We learned how to trim feet, clip fur, check and treat for parasites, breed, prepare for and assist with kidding, and milk the goats. After realizing that all the things we were doing to make our goats comfortable also readied them for the show ring, we decided it might be fun to try that, too.

We enter purebred Nubian and recorded grade Aline/Nubian crosses in two American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA.org) sanctioned shows per year: the NCDGA Spring Show and the NC State Fair Dairy Goat Show.  We  also participate in ADGA’s linear appraisal and one-day milk testing programs, and our herd is certified Brucellosis, CAE, and TB free.
